Luka Magnotta, originally named Eric Clinton Kirk Newman and born on July 24, 1982, is a Canadian individual who has been found guilty of committing a heinous act of murder. Specifically, he was convicted for the killing and dismemberment of Jun Lin, a Chinese international student. Shockingly, Magnotta went as far as mailing the victim’s severed body parts to various political organizations and elementary schools.
It is worth noting that Magnotta has been diagnosed with schizophrenia since the year 2000. Additionally, he has a previous conviction for fraud in Toronto in 2005, which resulted in a sentence of community service and probation. Luka Rocco Magnotta is the real name of Luka Magnotta.
Magnotta has been sentenced to life in prison and will have the opportunity to be considered for parole after 25 years. In addition, he received a separate sentence of 19 years for various other charges. Following a twelve-week trial, the jury received their final instructions from the presiding judge on December 15, 2014. After deliberating for eight days, the jury reached a unanimous verdict of guilty on all charges.
Following the decision to proceed with a trial, the preliminary inquiry judge scheduled a tentative trial date for September 8, 2014, on April 29, 2013. On September 29, 2014, during court proceedings in Quebec, Magnotta confessed to the killing of Jun Lin.
Luka is presently incarcerated at the Archambault Institution in Quebec, Canada, serving a life sentence. After Luka’s initial videos depicting animal cruelty were uploaded and shared online, a Facebook group was created by cat lovers who sought justice.
The group consisted of diverse members, including Deanna Thompson and John Green, who meticulously traced Luka’s identity and whereabouts using clues from the graphic video footage, such as distinctive plug sockets and a vacuum cleaner.
Their investigation led them to determine that the perpetrator was located in Canada, and their efforts proved invaluable to the authorities when Lin Jun’s body was eventually discovered. Subsequently, Magnotta managed to flee the country and seek refuge in a hotel in Bagnolet, France.
Although the police tracked Luka’s movements, he had already escaped by the time they arrived at the location. Eventually, German authorities apprehended Luka at an internet cafe in Berlin, Germany.
Due to the severity of Luka’s crimes, commercial airlines declined to transport him back to Canada, necessitating his return on an Air Force jet. In a surprising twist in the case, Luka claimed that he was coerced into committing these heinous acts by an individual named Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Lopez.
On May 25, 2012, an extremely disturbing video named ‘1 Lunatic, 1 Ice Pick’ was uploaded to Begstore.com, depicting the brutal stabbing and subsequent dismemberment of a man. A group of online users, who were already actively seeking to locate Luka due to his previous videos depicting the killing of kittens, employed various investigative techniques in their pursuit to identify the killer.
In the video footage, Luka is shown straddling Lin Jun. Luka proceeds to dismember the victim’s body and engages in further disturbing acts, including feeding flesh to a dog and killing a puppy.
In addition, Luka sent the victim’s left foot to the Conservative Party of Canada and, subsequently, his right hand to the Liberal Party. Lin Jun’s head was eventually recovered from a small lake in Angrignon Park in Montreal.
Despite Luka Magnotta’s admission, he pleaded not guilty to murder based on his schizophrenia. It has been determined that he has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder.
