Boz Scaggs Illness: Does Boz Scaggs have any Illness?

Boz Scaggs Illness: Discover whether the American singer-songwriter, Boz Scaggs, is currently sick and if he is diagnosed with any disease.

Who is Boz Scaggs?

Born on June 8, 1944, William Royce Scaggs, known as Boz Scaggs, is an accomplished American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He initially gained musical experience as a bandmate of Steve Miller in The Ardells and later in the Steve Miller Band.

In 1969, Scaggs embarked on his solo career, although he didn’t achieve major success until the release of his 1976 album, “Silk Degrees.” This album reached an impressive number 2 position on the Billboard 200 chart and featured hit singles like “Lido Shuffle” and “Lowdown.” Following this breakthrough, Scaggs went on to produce two more platinum-certified albums, “Down Two Then Left” and “Middle Man,” with the latter spawning popular singles such as “Breakdown Dead Ahead” and “Jojo.”

Taking a hiatus for most of the 1980s, Scaggs made a comeback in 1988, returning to recording and touring. During this time, he became a member of The New York Rock and Soul Revue and also opened the well-known San Francisco music venue, Slim’s, which remained a popular spot until its closure in 2020. Throughout the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s, Scaggs continued to record and tour, with his most recent album, “Out of the Blues,” released in 2018.

One notable contribution by Scaggs was his involvement in the formation of the band Toto. For his 1976 album, “Silk Degrees,” Scaggs carefully selected musicians based on recommendations from various sources. These musicians included David Paich, David Hungate, and Jeff Porcaro.

The three had already established a close friendship and had frequently collaborated on other albums, such as Steely Dan’s “Pretzel Logic.” By touring with Scaggs, the idea of forming a band became more concrete. Recognizing their talent, Columbia Records offered Toto a contract “without audition,” a fortunate opportunity described by Steve Porcaro as “a record deal thrown in our laps.”

David Paich acknowledged the significance of “Silk Degrees,” stating that Toto may not have formed as quickly or in the same way without Scaggs’ album. The friendship between Scaggs and the members of Toto has endured over the decades, resulting in various collaborations and joint performances. In fact, Paich collaborated with Scaggs once again on his 2001 album, “Dig,” contributing to six out of the eleven songs.

Boz Scaggs Health

Boz Scaggs is in good health and living peacefully with his family. Boz Scaggs entered into his first marriage with Donna Carmella Storniola in 1973. Together, they had two sons named Austin and Oscar. Austin went on to become a music journalist for Rolling Stone, while Oscar tragically passed away on December 31, 1998, due to a heroin overdose.

Boz Scaggs and Donna Carmella divorced in 1980, but after a legal battle lasting 3.5 years, Scaggs was granted joint custody of their sons. Sadly, Donna Carmella passed away in February 2017. In 1992, Boz Scaggs married Dominique Gioia.

They decided to make a fresh start in 1996 by moving to Napa Valley, where they planted a vineyard spanning 2.2 acres. The vineyard featured grape varieties such as Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, and Counoise. In 2000, they produced their first wine, and by 2006, Scaggs Vineyard had obtained organic certification. However, in 2016, Boz Scaggs sold his vineyard to Newfound Wines.

Tragedy struck again in 2017 when Boz Scaggs’ house was engulfed in flames during the devastating Northern California wildfires in October. At the time, he and his wife were on tour, resulting in the loss of everything: the vineyard, their cars, and cherished items such as legal pads filled with decades’ worth of lyrics and cocktail napkins holding sentimental value.
