Gretchen Hartman, his mother, was also in the profession and primarily worked as a silent film actress. Hale Jr.’s own career extended four decades, and after leaving Gilligan’s Island, he appeared in guest roles on sitcoms like The New Gidget, ALF, and The Love Boat. Hale has four children from two marriages. He died of thymus cancer on January 2, 1990. He was 68 years old at the time. Hale’s ashes were dispersed in the Pacific Ocean after he was cremated.

Jim Backus

Jim Backus was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 25, 1913. Backus began his acting career in the 1940s, and after Gilligan’s Island, he continued to work in the entertainment industry. He even had his own show, Hot Off the Wire, which ran for a single season. He is well remembered for his role as wealthy Thurston Howell III, who was left on the fictional island with his wife and other characters. Backus had Parkinson’s disease and died on July 3, 1989, from pneumonia complications. Natalie Schafer

Wells was elected Miss Nevada and represented her state in the 1960 Miss America pageant before landing the renowned TV role. Following her memorable role as Mary Ann, Wells made news for her financial difficulties. Wells’ obligations of “taxes, medical [expenses], and [other] liabilities” were paid off in 2018 thanks to a GoFundMe campaign established by one of her friends.

Tina Louise

Tina Louise, who played Ginger Grant, is the only cast member from the show who is still alive today.

Louise was born on February 11, 1934, in New York City. Before landing the role on the sitcom, she had acted on Broadway and appeared in a number of films. Louise declined to appear in revivals and reboots of the legendary show, including the TV movies Rescue from Gilligan’s Island in 1978 and Surviving Gilligan’s Island in 2001, according to the New York Post.
