Who is Domantas Sabonis?
Domantas Sabonis is a Lithuanian-American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Sacramento Kings in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and also represents the Lithuanian national team. He was born on May 3, 1996, in Portland, Oregon, while his father Arvydas Sabonis was playing for the Portland Trail Blazers.
Sabonis began his professional career in Spain, playing for Unicaja Málaga, before moving to the United States to play college basketball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs. He was selected as the 11th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic but was immediately traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
After spending his rookie season with the Thunder, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2017, where he played for five seasons and earned two NBA All-Star selections. In a surprising move, Sabonis was traded to the Sacramento Kings in 2022, in exchange for the talented young player Tyrese Haliburton.
Despite this unexpected change, Sabonis continued to excel on the court and was named an All-Star again in 2024. He played a significant role in helping the Kings end their 17-year playoff drought, setting a new NBA record.
