What Happened to Allrecipes App? Is the App No Longer Available?

Allrecipes App

Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Allrecipes.com, Inc. is a social networking service with a food focus. The founders of the company were Tim Hunt, Carl Lipo, Mark Madsen, Dan Shepherd, Michael Pfeffer, and David Quinn, all of whom were graduate students in archaeology at the University of Washington.

Allrecipes.com originated in 1997 as a result of founders Tim Hunt and Dan Shepherd’s search for their preferred cookie recipes on the internet. Initially an extension of Emergent Media, one of Seattle’s early web companies, the recipe-sharing and cooking community site started with CookieRecipe.com before expanding to other domains such as Cakerecipe.com, Chickenrecipe.com, Pierecipe.com, and Beefrecipe.com.

After launching 38 different domains, the company eventually combined them all under Allrecipes.com. The core of the founding team was made up of Yann Oehl, Kala Kushnik, Ursula Dalzell, and Sydney Carter. In 1999, Bill Moore, a former Starbucks executive, was hired as CEO. Reader’s Digest purchased the company in 2006 for $66 million. Meredith Corporation bought Allrecipes.com from Reader’s Digest for $175 million in 2012.

Allrecipes.com underwent a major overhaul in September 2015 to transform into a social networking service for food enthusiasts. However, the revamped website received widespread negative feedback for its reduced usability. On October 16, 2018, Meredith shut down 14 international Allrecipes domains.
