Nowak opened up about their relationship in an interview for the HLN docuseries, Lies, Crimes, & Video, and even blamed Watts’ mistress, Nichol Kessinger, for the murders. In her first letter to Watts, Nowak wrote about God’s forgiveness and that she did not hate him.

Some Reddit users have speculated that Nowak may have had ulterior motives for seeking out Watts. She “liked” multiple Chris Watts pages on Facebook, and one user claimed that she met Watts’ sister, Jamie, through one of these groups, and had a husband in the same correctional facility as Watts. One Reddit user pointed out that Nowak, who was seriously injured after crashing her car while drunk, may see that she and Watts have something incredibly dark in common: the fact that they “destroyed their lives through their own actions.”

Does Chris Watts Feel Remorse?

Chris Watts, who appeared to be a loving family man, had been seeing his co-worker, Nichol Kessinger, since June 2018. His wife, Shannan, was pregnant with their third child and first son, Niko, at the time. In an interview with Cherlyn Cadle, a novel writer, Chris admitted to daydreaming about killing Shanann. On August 9, 2018, Chris took Nichol out for dinner and silently planned the painful demise of his wife and children.

Four days later, he put his plan into action. He first went to his four-year-old daughter Bella’s room and used a pillow to smother her. He then went to Celeste’s room and did the same. After killing his two daughters, he went back to bed with his wife and strangled her to death after creating a divorce argument with her.

After Shanann had passed, Bella and Cece woke back up. Bella’s eyes were bruised, and both girls looked like they had been through trauma. Chris then bundled his wife in a sheet and bundled her into the car while his terrified daughters watched.

He drove them to the oil company where he worked and dumped Shannan’s body first. She landed face down and partially gave birth to the baby boy she was carrying, who sadly did not make it. Chris then smothered Celeste with her favorite blanket before dropping her into an oil tank. He then turned to his oldest daughter, Bella, who pleaded with him not to kill her, but he went ahead and killed her as well before dropping her down the oil tank.

Chris even gave press interviews pleading for his family to come back home and claimed he had no idea where they were. However, he failed a polygraph test and eventually pleaded guilty to the murders. In his confession, he said, “That’s the last time I’m going to be tucking my babies in.” I knew what would happen the day before and did nothing to stop it. All I could feel was now I was free to be with Nikki. Feelings of my love for her were overcoming me. I felt no remorse.”
