Bachelor in Paradise standouts Michael Allio and Danielle Maltby have split up after finding love on the beach during the most recent season of the ABC dating series. Allio, who was first introduced to Bachelor franchise viewers while competing on Katie Thurston‘s The Bachelorette season that aired in 2020, was a guest on Monday’s episode of the Trading Secrets podcast. During the appearance, he told host Jason Tartick that the couple had parted ways.
“It’s still incredibly fresh,” Allio said. “I guess I’ll just come out with it: We’re not together anymore. It’s not what we planned. We both threw a lot into this relationship, and it’s really awful when it doesn’t work out.”
He continued, “When you realize that love is there, but you’re not necessarily compatible, you mourn the loss not of just that person and that friend in your life, but also the future that you had envisioned. And it’s to no fault of hers — she poured everything into this. I just have so much admiration.”

While talking in the interview, Michael stated that it is still quite fresh and is still coping with the breakup. He further added, “It’s still incredibly fresh, I guess I’ll just come out with it: We’re not together anymore. It’s not what we planned. However, he stated in the end that they are still keeping in touch and trying to resolve some issues. On Danielle Maltby’s part, she hasn’t commented about it yet with her fans or media. Michael and Maltby’s romance blossomed throughout the eighth season of Bachelor in Paradise, which concluded in November. Allio’s wife, Laura, died of cancer in 2019, and he continues to raise their son, James. And Maltby’s fiancé committed suicide in 2011.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter following the season eight finale, the couple explained why they weren’t in a rush to get engaged.
During the season 8 reunion, which was filmed in November 2022, the pair revealed that they are still going strong. Danielle even has plans to relocate from Colorado to Michael’s home state of Ohio, but they are “taking things slow” and won’t be living together right away. Although Michael and Danielle were supposed to be in hiding after their time on the ABC show, they left a major hint that they were still together in August 2022. Following the wedding of BiP’s resident bartender Wells Adams and Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland, a photo emerged of the duo in arms cozied up together for a group picture at the nuptials. There were also multiple videos circulating on social media that showed them in close contact on the dance floor.
Michael later confirmed their split while appearing on the September 18 episode of Jason Tartick’s “Trading Secrets” podcast. “I guess I’ll just come out with it. We’re not together anymore,” he said. “It’s not what we planned. We both threw a lot into this relationship and it’s really awful when it doesn’t work out.”
Four days later, Danielle took to her Instagram Stories to break her silence on their split. “This breakup was not a mutual decision arriving at some perception of incompatibilities,” she wrote on September 22. “However, I do hope the best for Michael, and I will always have [his son] James in my heart as we move forward separately.”
