Tom Tierney was an Irish former Rugby union footballer. He played for the rugby teams including Galwegians, Richmond, Garryowen,  Connacht, Leicester, and Munster. He also represented the Ireland National Rugby Union team. He played as a scrum-half. In 1999 and 2000, he won eight international caps. After retiring, he started coaching Cork Constitution FC, Garryowen FC, and Glenstal Abbey School. He was also the head coach of the Ireland women’s national rugby union team between 2014 and 2017.

Tom Tierney, the former Rugby player, and coach, passed away suddenly. He passed away overnight. He was 46 years old and it is unknown whether he had any health issues. Everyone is shocked to hear the sad demise of this popular player. Many Rugby celebrities like IRFU chief executive Kevin Potts, his former team-mate Frankie Sheahan and others are paying tribute to him. 

Kevin Potts stated: “Our immediate thoughts are with his wife Mary and daughters Isabel and Julia, as well as his many friends, colleagues and former team-mates.. Tom was an outstanding scrum-half and his time in the Ireland jersey will always be an immense source of pride for his family and the clubs that supported him on his journey. He also amassed an impressive CV as a coach and we were honoured to have him as a colleague in the IRFU from 2014 to present. He will be sorely missed.” (As per BBC)

His former teammate, Frankie Sheahan wrote in his tweet that he was truly devastated by the news of his ‘great friend and teammate’ demise.
