The anime adaptation of Tite Kubo’s manga series “Bleach” has been a fan favorite for years, and the excitement has only intensified with the release of the “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” series. This series, which is a direct continuation of the original “Bleach” anime, covers the manga’s final story arc, known as the “Thousand-Year Blood War”.
Directed by Tomohisa Taguchi, the series made its debut on TV Tokyo in October 2022. It was announced to be structured in four separate cours, with breaks in between each segment. The first cour, titled “The Blood Warfare”, consisted of 13 episodes and concluded in December 2022. The eagerly awaited second cour, named “The Separation”, also comprised 13 episodes and aired from July 8 to September 30, 2024.
Following the conclusion of “The Separation”, fans are now eagerly awaiting the third cour, “The Conflict”, which is scheduled to premiere in 2024. Although a specific release date has not yet been announced, the anticipation is building, especially with the high stakes and intense battles expected in this upcoming segment.
The series has been well-received for its faithful adaptation of the manga and its dynamic animation style. Each cour has brought with it new theme songs and artists, adding a fresh musical layer to the intense action and deep storytelling that “Bleach” is known for.
The opening theme for “The Blood Warfare” cour was performed by Tatsuya Kitani, titled “Scar”, and the ending theme “Saihate” was by SennaRin. For “The Separation” cour, the opening theme “Stars” was brought to life by w.o.d., and the ending theme “Endroll” was performed by Yoh Kamiyama. These musical pieces have been integral in setting the tone for each episode, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
In terms of media releases, Aniplex has scheduled the Blu-ray and DVD releases for the Japanese market, with the first volume covering episodes 1-13 released on April 26, 2024, and the second volume for episodes 14-26 slated for March 27, 2024. For English-speaking audiences, Viz Media is handling the Region A Blu-ray releases, with the first part scheduled for release on March 26, 2024.
Viz Media announced that the series would be available for streaming on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ for international viewers outside of Asia. This has made it accessible to a global audience, ensuring that fans worldwide can enjoy the latest chapters in the “Bleach” saga as soon as they are released.
The English dub of the series began streaming on Hulu in November 2022, shortly after the series premiere, allowing English-speaking fans to enjoy the series in their preferred language.
As “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” continues to unfold, fans can look forward to more gripping episodes filled with epic battles, intricate character developments, and the high-quality animation that Studio Pierrot is known for. The continuation of the series in 2024 with “The Conflict” cour promises to bring even more excitement and drama, drawing closer to the climactic conclusion of this beloved series.
