Who Is Rosa Parks?

Rosa Parks was born in, 1913 known as the “first lady of civil rights” and “mother of the freedom movement,” and was a prominent figure in the civil rights movement. She became a member of the NAACP in 1943 and took part in several important civil rights campaigns. On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger, leading to her arrest for breaking segregation laws. This incident inspired a boycott of Montgomery buses by the black community and ultimately resulted in a court case, Browder v. Gayle, that declared bus segregation unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. 

Did Rosa Parks Have Siblings?  

Rosa McCauley was the first-born child of James and Leona McCauley. On August 20, 1915, Sylvester was born, and her parents separated not long thereafter. Sylvester grew up with Rosa in Pine Level, Alabama, and during World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps, and after the war, he moved to Detroit. In 1957, he and his wife, Daisy, encouraged Rosa to move to Detroit. Sylvester died on November 27, 1977.

When Was Rosa Parks Born?

Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama, and was 92 years old at the time of her death in 2005. She was raised in a middle-class family and held American nationality and was a Christian. Parks received her early education at the Highlander Folk School in Tennessee and the Montgomery Industrial School for Girls in the US. She later went on to attend Alabama State Teachers College for Negroes and completed her higher education at the Highlander Research and Education Center in the US. During her studies, Parks showed a strong interest in both academics and politics, which made her a well-rounded individual.

Rosa Parks was married. She wed Raymond Parks in 1932, but he passed away in 1977. Rosa Parks was a woman known for her charming personality and attractive appearance. She had a cute smile, adorable looks, and a slim physique with measurements of 33-26-34 inches. Standing at 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 55 kilograms, she had long, shiny grey hair and beautiful brown eyes.

Rosa Parks married Raymond Parks, a barber from Montgomery and a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), in 1932. The NAACP was collecting funds to support the defense of the Scottsboro Boys, a group of Black men falsely accused of rape. Throughout her life, Rosa held various jobs including domestic work and hospital aide. With encouragement from her husband, she completed her high school education in 1933, which was a rare accomplishment for African Americans at the time, as fewer than 7% held a high-school diploma.
