In Disney Dreamlight Valley, the story is about a person who takes a break from city life and goes back to their old rural home. They fall asleep in their childhood backyard and enter a dream world called Dreamlight Valley, where they regain memories of their past.

The valley used to be a happy place until the ruler disappeared, and Night Thorns caused everyone to forget everything in an event called ‘The Forgetting.’ With the help of Merlin and their own magic called ‘Dreamlight,’ the player aims to clear away the Night Thorns and restore the valley.

They discover their old house and investigate the Dream Castle, finding doorways to other realms where villagers fled. By helping characters and unlocking doors, they bring back villagers to rebuild Dreamlight Valley. Along the way, the player learns they were the valley’s former ruler and that the Forgetting was caused by a dark being called the Forgotten, who turns out to be the player’s inner child. The player helps the Forgotten overcome negative emotions, preventing a rift that could destroy the valley, and everyone forgives and welcomes the Forgotten back to Dreamlight Valley.
