Against the Eagles that day, he chose to celebrate by “rolling six”. In 1979, he recorded a career-high five sacks against the New York Giants and played in Super Bowl XIV when the Rams met the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dryer set a record on October 21, 1973, during a game at Los Angeles where his team won 24-7 against Green Bay. In the fourth quarter, with the Packers trailing 20-7 and deep in their own territory, Dryer charged in from the right side of the defense and tackled Green Bay quarterback Scott Hunter in the end zone for safety. On the Packers’ next possession near their own goal line, Dryer struck again, maneuvering through the middle of the Packers’ offensive line to bring down backup quarterback Jim Del Gaizo for his second safety of the game, thereby establishing an NFL record. Dryer’s outstanding performance earned him the title of Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Week.
