The actor and his wife were walking in downtown Santa Fe when the homeless man, whom they had previously helped with food and money, approached them. Hackman and the man got into an argument, during which the man reportedly insulted Hackman’s wife. The situation then escalated, with the man approaching the couple in a threatening manner. Hackman defended himself by hitting the man. No arrests or citations were made, and police concluded that Hackman acted in self-defense because he was concerned for his safety. Although he hasn’t appeared in a film since 2004, Hackman will be narrating an upcoming Martin Scorsese movie called “The Wolf of Wall Street,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
