Despite Falana suffering numerous incapacitating bouts over the course of 18 months, her illness entered remission. She then started performing music again. In the spring of 1989, she sang “Proud Mary” on stage at the Las Vegas Hilton alongside Wayne Newton. She returned to the Las Vegas stage in July 1989 for numerous sold-out shows despite clubs being hesitant to book her for fear she would relapse. According to the August 1989 issue of Jet magazine, she made her first reservation at the Sands Hotel, where she made her announcement to her audience. She responded, “I’m not cured, but I’m healed,” when a member of the audience inquired if she had been cured. What medicine does is cure. God is the one who heals.

At sixteen years old, Falana performed her debut dance performance in 1958 at a Dinah Washington performance in a Philadelphia nightclub, where she was given the opening act role. The “Queen of Blues,” Washington, played a significant role in advancing Falana’s early career. Sammy Davis Jr. spotted Falana performing in a chorus line in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and gave her a prominent part in his 1964 Broadway production of Golden Boy. Falana started her singing career later in 1964 after the musical. Mercury Records produced and published her debut single, “My Baby,” in 1965. Later in her career, she recorded for the record company owned by Frank Sinatra. Sammy Davis, Jr. served as Falana’s tutor in the late 1960s.
