“The Young and the Restless” is a popular American television soap opera created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, originally airing on CBS in 1973. The show is set in the fictional town of Genoa City and was initially broadcasted as half-hour episodes, five times a week. The show later transitioned to one-hour episodes in 1980. “The Young and the Restless” has been syndicated internationally and has a dedicated following. The original storylines of the show revolved around two families: the affluent Brooks family and the working-class Foster family. Over the years, the show has evolved and introduced many new characters and families, while continuing to be a staple of daytime television.
Michelle Stafford has been a regular cast member on “The Young and the Restless” since 1994, portraying the character of Phyllis Summers for over 2,100 episodes. Despite her long tenure on the show, Michelle has taken breaks from the role over the years to pursue other projects, including the movie “Double Jeopardy” in 1999 and a regular role on “General Hospital” from 2014 to 2019. During these absences, other actresses, such as Gina Tognoni and Sandra Nelson, have played the character of Phyllis. Recently, Michelle shared on her Instagram that she does plan to leave “The Young and the Restless,” but it appears that her absence will only be temporary and may be incorporated into the show’s storyline. Given the history of Phyllis being played by multiple actresses over the soap’s run, it seems likely that Michelle will return to Genoa City at some point in the future.
Phyllis and Jeremy Stark hatch a plan to frame Diane for Phyllis’ death, and Phyllis accuses Diane of ruining her life at Jack and Diane’s engagement party. Phyllis becomes sick and collapses, with Stark claiming they are married. However, Phyllis disappears before reaching the hospital. Victor Newman suspects Diane’s involvement in Phyllis’ disappearance, and Michelle Stafford has confirmed that she will not be leaving the show. While Phyllis may be absent for a few episodes, she will likely return in due time.

Stafford was born September 14, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. Michelle Stafford played the role of Phyllis Summers on “The Young and the Restless” twice, from 1994-1997 and 2000-2013.
