Sharon Budd is still alive after the tragedic Interstate 80 rock-throwing incident. On July 10, 2014, a rock shattered through the glass of Sharon Budd’s automobile, a schoolteacher from Uniontown, Ohio, was a passenger. She was traveling east on I-80 in Pennsylvania when the boulder struck her square in the face. Budd had severe wounds, including the loss of vision in one eye.
She did, though, make it through it. Her skull broke, and she spent months in the hospital. After undergoing several operations, Sharon, a teacher at Perry Local Schools in Massillon, is still recovering.
When the attack happened, Budd and her husband were traveling with their daughter Kaylee across Pennsylvania on Interstate 80 for a concert in New York. The recuperation of Sharon Budd is going well, according to her daughter. When Sharon Budd was rushed to the emergency room, the doctors did not think she would live.
She underwent five surgeries over the course of three months at Geisinger Medical Center and HealthSouth, including a 13-hour procedure to repair her face and another to remove a portion of her frontal lobe from her brain.
On Saturday, Randy Budd, Sharon Budd’s husband, passed suddenly. The Stark County Coroner’s office reports that his apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head caused his death. Sharon Budd suffered a catastrophic injury in the event in July 2014, and Randy Budd had remained by his wife’s side ever since.
With 33 years of marriage, Randy and Sharon have four kids. A month before his passing, she and her husband were at Bonefish Grille dining together to mark their anniversary.Randy Budd passed away on August 6, 2016, after shooting himself in the head.
Budd had argued for the Ohio Department of Transportation to put protective fencing on bridge overpasses after the rock-throwing incident on Interstate 80 seriously injured his wife. Randy Budd led a campaign in Ohio and Pennsylvania to put protective fencing on bridges that cross busy highways while remaining by her side the entire time.
The 108 new and refurbished bridges that cross state highways will have fencing or other obstacles installed, the Ohio Department of Transportation has decided.
The siblings of Kaylee Budd, who was driving the automobile during the rock-throwing incident on Interstate 80, are James Budd, Lucas Budd, and Joey Budd. Sharon and Randy Budd have four grown children. Daughter Kaylee, 20, who was operating their vehicle that evening, has been emotionally damaged by it.
She even sought therapy to help her process the fallout. Six weeks later, Sharon’s mother Shirley Betz, age 77, experienced a stroke as a result of it.
On July 10, 2014, a passenger in a car on the highway was badly hurt and forever scarred by four adolescents who were hurling rocks from a flyover above Interstate 80 (I-80) in Union County, Pennsylvania.
On July 10, 2014, Sharon Budd, a 53-year-old schoolteacher from Uniontown, Ohio was a passenger in a vehicle being driven east on I-80 in Pennsylvania by her daughter when a rock shattered the windscreen of the vehicle and struck Budd square in the face. Budd had severe wounds, including the loss of vision in one eye.
When the stone struck the car, it sounded like “an explosion,” according to Budd’s husband Randy, who was riding in the back seat and the couple’s daughter Kaylee was driving. The driver of a tractor-trailer truck, Matthew Baker of Plainville, Massachusetts, informed authorities that a rock that was thrown from the overpass impacted his vehicle right before it hit the vehicle that Budd was riding in.
Keefer McGee, Tyler Porter, brothers Dylan, and Brett Lahr, all of New Columbia, Pennsylvania, and all between the ages of 17 and 18 were apparently engaged in a “troublemaking spree.” The guy who hurled the rock that struck the Budds’ car has been identified as Dylan Lahr.
“Aggravated assault, conspiracy, reckless endangerment, firing missiles into a moving vehicle, agricultural vandalism, and possession of instruments of crime” were the charges brought against all four. Between 18 and 24 months in prison were the terms of Brett Lahr’s punishment.
Tyler Porter, Dylan Lahr, and Keefer McGee each received sentences ranging from 11 months to 23 months to 22 months to 10 years in prison.
Sharon Budd and her daughter Kaylee Budd are currently residing in Massillon, Ohio. Since Sharon’s spouse committed suicide by shooting himself on August 6, 2016, they now lead a secluded life.
