Van Morrison, a Northern Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, has had a musical career that has lasted for seven decades. He has received two Grammy Awards and is known affectionately to his fans as “Van the Man”. As a young man in the 1950s, Morrison played a range of instruments such as guitar, harmonica, keyboards, and saxophone for various Irish showbands, performing covers of popular songs of the era. He rose to fame in the mid-1960s as the lead singer of the Northern Irish rock and R&B band Them, with whom he recorded the hit song “Gloria”.
Van Morrison is currently embarking on a tour across 6 countries and has 18 concerts coming up. The next stop on their tour is at the 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin, followed by another performance at the same venue. One of Morrison’s most popular songs, “Brown Eyed Girl,” was released in 1967 and climbed the charts to reach number 10 on the US pop charts. In 2000, it was recognized as one of the 100 Greatest Pop Songs by Rolling Stone/MTV. In 1968, Morrison signed with Warner Bros Records and released his first album with them, “Astral Weeks,” which is widely regarded as one of his greatest albums. In 1993, Morrison was honored with induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Additionally, Morrison holds honorary doctorates in music from Queen’s University Belfast (2001) and the University of Ulster (1992).
Morrison first met his wife, Janet Rigsbee, when she was 19 years old, after one of his band’s performances. The couple quickly developed a strong connection and spent more time together in New York City. Their relationship advanced rapidly, leading to a wedding, as Morrison was facing the threat of deportation (according to celebrity Spy). Janet, who Morrison affectionately referred to as “Janet Planet,” served as his muse and source of inspiration for his music (as per Boston Magazine). They had a child together before their relationship ultimately ended in divorce in 1973.
After separating from Janet Planet, Van Morrison found love once more. He met Michelle Rocca, who later became his second wife, at a dinner party hosted by Desmond Guinness at Leixlip Castle in the early 90s (according to The Independent). Both Morrison and Rocca had previously been married and she was going through a difficult breakup when she met Morrison. Rocca was seeking compensation for assault from her former fiancé, Cathal Ryan, and Morrison was reportedly by her side in court every day until the case was resolved.
The arrival of George Ivan Morrison III, also known as “Little Ivan,” was announced on Van Morrison’s official website shortly after his birth on December 28, 2009 (as reported by the Dallas Morning News). At first, it was thought that internet hackers had made the posting, but it was later revealed that Gigi Lee was the person responsible. Despite Morrison’s denial of paternity, there were rumors that he was living with Lee in Belfast for a period of time. Rocca reportedly attributed the end of her marriage to her relationship with Morrison (according to The Independent).
Van Morrison, a British singer-songwriter, stands at a height of 168 cm (5’6”) and weighs 65 kg. He is 77 years old. Morrison is renowned for his exceptional songwriting skills and vocal abilities. At the age of 17, he became a member of The Monarchs and traveled across Europe for the first time with the band. Under the name Georgie and the Monarchs, the group released their debut song, “Boozoo Hully Gully,” in Germany. After the Monarchs disbanded in November 1963, Morrison continued his musical journey with guitarist Herbie Armstrong and Geordie Sproule as the Golden Eagles.
