All-female groups from the Korean pop or K-pop industry are known as K-Pop girl groups. Interesting themes, catchy lyrics, point-choreography, and creative graphics have made Korean girl groups extremely successful. S.E.S., Fin.K.L, and Baby Vox were among the first generation of Korean girl groups to gain popularity in the late 1990s. Girls’ Generation, Kara, Wonder Girls, 2NE1, 4Minute, Sistar, Miss A, Girl’s Day, Apink, and other second-generation groups rose to prominence starting in 2003. The third-generation groups debuted in 2012 and are currently controlling the Korean music industry. Blackpink, Twice, Red Velvet, GFriend, Mamamoo, I.O.I., Everglow, EXID, oh!GG, Itzy, and others are some of the K-Pop girl groups.

#1 Red velvet

Red Velvet debuted with four members, but in 2015, they acquired maknae member Yeri, and their popularity exploded. Red Velvet was named Billboard’s finest idol group alive in November 2019, and the group is known for their unique themes and chart-topping hits. Red Velvet alternates between “red” (fun and upbeat) music like “Red Flavor” and “velvet” (dark and mature) tracks like “Bad Boy” and “Psycho.” They are one of the few groups to have performed in North Korea as ambassadors of South Korea, owing to their global clout.

#2 ITZY

ITZY, like their labelmates Twice, hit the ground running with their debut single “Dalla Dalla,” which charted high, broke many YouTube records, and won multiple rookie of the year accolades. The goal of the band is to create uplifting and motivating music with catchy lyrics. Their songs “Icy” and “Wannabe” also charted in South Korea, promoting a positive message in the process.

#3 EXID

EXID made their breakthrough in the K-pop industry when a fancam of member Hani performing “Up and Down” went viral. The song went to number one, and EXID went on to have more success with songs like “Ah Yeah” and “DDD.” From 2016 to 2018, the group promoted four members while member Solji was healing. The group announced in 2019 that they would be taking a break so that the members could focus on their solo projects.

#4 f(x)

f(x) is another group with catchy and chart-topping singles who has received critical appreciation for their music. Some of the most well-known second generation K-pop songs include “Electric Shock,” “Rum Pum Pum Pum,” and “Four Walls.” f(x) were the first K-pop act to perform at SXSW in 2013, and their album Pink Tape was awarded Billboard’s Greatest K-pop Album of the 2010s. ​Sulli departed the group in 2015 to pursue acting, while the rest of the members of f(x) left SM Entertainment in 2019. Amber added that they do not have any intentions to reunite at this time. ​

#5 4minute

4MINUTE is one of the most well-known girl groups, gaining popularity for its intense girl crush idea and mature comebacks. The group’s most popular songs include “What’s Your Name,” “Crazy,” and “Hate.” “Hate,” one of the songs, was produced by Skrillex, a well-known artist. Despite their enormous success, the members of the group were unable to strike a deal with Cube Entertainment, and the group disbanded in 2016.

#6 BVNDIT

BVNDIT made their debut with the song “Hocus Pocus.” Following that, the trio proceeded to release new music as part of MNH Entertainment’s New.Wav initiative, alongside labelmates such as Chungha. Songs like “Dumb” and “Cool” have also been published by BVNDIT.

#7 Wonder girls

In the fall of 2007, the Wonder Girls replaced Hyuna with Yubin, a future member of 4Minute. Fans, on the other hand, adore the five-member Wonder Girls.

#8 HINAPIA

Members Minkyeung, Yaebin, Gyeongwon, and Eunwoo re-debuted in HINAPIA with new member Baba following the disbandment of PRISTIN. The group’s first single, “Drip,” was released in late 2019. The girls are hoping that HINAPIA will assist the group in archiving their goals, something they were unable to accomplish with their prior organisation. HI New Amazing UtoPIA is the acronym for Hi New Amazing UtoPIA.

#9 Laboum

After the departure of member Yulhee in 2017, Laboum became a quintet after launching with six members. The five-member group published their single album Between Us the following year, and made their Japanese debut later that year. They released their holiday single “Fresh Adventure Winter ++” in December 2019.

#10 Ladies’ Code

Ladies’ Code was initially a five-member group, but due to the unfortunate deaths of members RiSe and EunB in a car accident, the group was reduced to three members. The group released the song “I’ll Smile Even If It Hurts” as a tribute to their previous members after a one-year hiatus. The trio, best known for the songs “Hate You” and “Kiss Kiss,” went on indefinite hiatus in 2020 due to contract expirations.

#11 SATURDAY

The group started off with seven members and went through multiple lineup changes before settling on five. The girl trio is well known for their songs “WiFi” and “BByong,” which include bright colours and entertaining dancing with catchy choruses.

Members: Juyeon, Haneul, Ayeon, Yuki, Minseo (Former Members: Chaewon, Chohee, Sion, and Sunha)

#12 Elris

Elris launched with five members, but in 2020, EJ and Chaejeong were joined to the group. “Pow Pow” and “Jackpot” are two popular Elris songs, with “Jackpot” being EJ and Chaejeong’s first reappearance as members of the group. Each member of the group represents a natural force such as water, sky, forest, or wind as part of the group’s concept.

#13 KARA 

KARA spent the majority of their existence as a five-member group, despite the fact that their line-up has changed numerous times. Nicole and Jiyong left around the conclusion of the group’s inception, while Seunghee left early on. Youngji was added to the group after Nicole and Jiyong left. “Lupin,” “Step,” “Pandora,” and “Mamma Mia” were all huge hits, winning several awards at music shows. KARA was also one of Japan’s most popular K-pop groups in the early 2010s, earning a double platinum artist not long after their debut.

#14 SPICA

Spica made their debut with the track “Doggedly,” which gained popularity after labelmate Lee Hyori appeared in the music video. Members Bohyung and Boa debuted as the pair KEEMBO in April 2020, after the group formally disbanded in 2017.

#15 Crayon pop

Crayon Pop first gained notice for their innovative dancing and entertaining stage attire with songs like “Bar Bar Bar” and “Uh-ee.” The band went on to open for Lady Gaga on her ArtRave: The Artpop Ball concert tour later on. Crayon Pop was also a huge hit in Japan and China. Soyul left the group after her marriage to Moon Hee-jun of H.O.T. to focus on her daughter. Since 2017, the group hasn’t advertised, allowing members to focus on their single ventures.

#16 Baby V.O.X

Baby V.O.X, one of the greatest girl groups of the first generation, was only rivalled by S.E.S and Fin.K.L. The group is frequently recognised with a major breakthrough in China. Baby V.O.X was able to achieve enormous popularity with their singles “Get Up” and “Killer.” Prior to their breakup, the duo collaborated with Tupac Shakur and Jennifer Lopez. The group disbanded in 2006 with the departure of members Eunjin and Eunhye.
