The film stars Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi in the key roles, with Diana Penty and Nushratt Bharuccha providing support. The film is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Driving Licence, and it centers on a rivalry between an RTO inspector and a popular actor.

Om’s son is being bullied by Vijay’s fans at school. As a result, Om decides to keep his son out of school until Vijay fails the driving test, and he deliberately tries to fail Vijay during the practical assessment. However, Vijay manages to pass with flying colors, despite Om pointing out minor errors. Om’s decision is overruled, and Vijay passes the test.

Om then delays the follow-up road test until the day of Naina’s surgery, causing Vijay to announce his retirement from driving and acting, blaming Om’s abuse of power. Furious fans start to attack Om, but Vijay saves him and they reconcile while traveling. Om reveals that Vijay’s license was in the gift box that Vijay threw away at the RTO office earlier.

Vijay scolds Suraj and Vimla for their mistakes and invites Om and his family to his home. Two days later, before leaving for the airport, Vijay informs the press of their reconciliation and that he has received his driving license. Vijay drives his car to the airport as the movie ends.

Motor Vehicle Inspector Om Prakash Aggarwal, stationed in Bhopal, is an ardent admirer of Bollywood actor Vijay Kumar. However, Vijay’s upcoming film is facing a delay in shooting as he has to leave for the US with his wife Naina for her medical treatment. The movie has already exceeded its budget, and the remaining climax scene is yet to be filmed on leased land belonging to the Indian Navy.

The film crew discovers that Vijay’s driving license, which is mandatory for obtaining clearance, has gone missing. The producer is furious and wants to wrap up the filming as quickly as possible. Despite the possibility of issuing a duplicate license, Vijay cannot do so due to a clerical error during a shift between RTO buildings. To expedite the process, Vijay’s politician friend requests Om to issue the license illicitly, without Vijay appearing for the driving test.

In exchange, Om demands that Vijay meets him in person at the RTO and serves as proof in case of an inquiry. Vijay Kumar, a popular film actor, needs to submit his driving license to get clearance to film the climax of his next movie at an Indian Navy leased land. However, his license goes missing, causing delays in the film’s production. To speed up the process, Vijay’s politician friend asks Om Prakash Aggarwal, a Motor Vehicle Inspector, to issue the license illicitly.

Vijay visits the RTO to meet Om but is caught up in a media frenzy when Vijay’s peon gives misinformation to reporters, damaging Vijay’s reputation. Meanwhile, Vijay’s rival, Suraj Diwan, plots against him, leading to a hit-and-run attack on Om and his family, which Om believes was carried out by Vijay’s men. While Vijay’s wife is in the US for medical treatment, Vijay is pressured by his producer to cancel his trip and finish filming his movie, leading him to call Om in frustration.

Om believes that Vijay is behind the attacks on his family and accuses him, but the police cannot find conclusive evidence against Vijay. Om and his family protest in front of Vijay’s house, and Vijay responds by revealing Om as a delusional stalker who disrupts his life. However, Vijay agrees to take the driving test in Om’s presence and passes, despite Om’s difficult questions.

Bollywood critics and fans are buzzing about the Selfie flick. The impact of the trailer and songs added to the film’s excitement, and the theatrical release date was scheduled for February 24, 2024.  Disney Plus Hotstar has obtained the OTT rights to the Selfie film.

On January 12, 2022, the film was officially announced. The official trailer for the film was published on January 22, 2024. An Instagram video of Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan dancing together to the song “Main Khiladi” from the film went viral, becoming the most seen and liked reel by an Indian star on Instagram. At a film promotion event, Akshay Kumar took 184 photos with fans in three minutes, breaking the Guinness World Record for the most selfies taken in three minutes. In theaters, the film was released on February 24, 2024. Dor Home entertainment media on April 21, 2024, the film aired on Disney+ Hotstar.
