The eagerly anticipated 45th season of “Survivor,” marking the sapphire anniversary of this iconic reality TV series, is set to premiere in the fall of 2024. CBS has announced that the show will continue to feature 90-minute episodes each week, maintaining the format introduced in recent seasons. Fans of the series can expect the same thrilling challenges and strategic gameplay, all under the watchful eye of host Jeff Probst.
Adhering to the ongoing safety protocols due to the Covid-19 pandemic, “Survivor 45” will ensure all cast and crew members, including the indefatigable Jeff Probst, follow stringent health guidelines. This commitment helps safeguard the health of everyone involved while delivering the high-stakes entertainment “Survivor” is known for.
The cast for the upcoming season will be officially revealed by CBS in September. The lineup includes 18 contestants, featuring the return of Bruce Perreault, who was previously evacuated for medical reasons in the first episode of “Survivor 44.” The rest of the contestants are newcomers, each bringing diverse backgrounds to the show, in line with CBS’s diversity mandate which requires that half of the reality TV casts be Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC).
“Survivor 45” is scheduled to hit the screens on Wednesday, September 27, 2024. The decision to air 90-minute episodes is partly due to the current writers’ and actors’ strikes, which have influenced the network’s scheduling.
Typically, “Survivor” films two seasons consecutively during the spring and summer, which are then aired in the fall of the same year and the following spring. After a pause in 2020 due to the pandemic, production resumed in Fiji in 2021 with back-to-back filming of subsequent seasons. The same pattern was followed for the 2024 seasons, ensuring fans have continuous thrilling content.
Gone are the days of themed “Survivor” seasons. Starting from “Survivor 41,” the show has moved away from specific themes like “Heroes vs. Villains,” now simply using the season number as the title. “Survivor 45” will continue this trend. The game duration has been adjusted to 26 days, a change from the traditional 39 days, which seems to be a permanent adjustment moving forward.
The Mamanuca Islands in Fiji remain the permanent backdrop for “Survivor,” a location praised by Probst for its clear waters and beautiful scenery. This picturesque setting has hosted the show since Season 33 and continues to be an ideal spot for the survival challenges that define the series.
The intriguing teaser for “Survivor 45” hinted at the possible return of the much-loved “Survivor” auction, where contestants bid on food, comfort items, and sometimes game advantages. This element has been absent for several seasons, and its potential comeback has sparked excitement among the fanbase.
Jeff Probst has modified his famous catchphrase from “Come on in, guys!” to simply “Come on in!” in an effort to be more inclusive. This change reflects the evolving nature of the show and its responsiveness to contemporary social dynamics.
While “Survivor 45” and “Survivor 46” will not feature an All-Stars cast, fans are speculating that “Survivor 50” might bring back this exciting format. It’s been a tradition to have returning players every few seasons, and an All-Stars edition would be a significant event for the series.
