What Happened To Maddie The Good Doctor?

Despite being a medical powerhouse, Dr. Glassman is dissatisfied. Throughout season one, we learn that he had a wife and a daughter, Madison Glassman (Maddie). Although fans are aware that Maddie has died, the cause of her death is unknown. We don’t find out what happened until the fourth episode of the second season. Dr. Glassman develops a brain tumour in the final episode of season one. Despite his reservations about having the cancer removed surgically, Glassman realises that it is the only way to save his life, so he consents. Glassman has a lot of hallucinations after surgery. This is most likely due to the medications and lack of sleep.

Glassman tries to sleep with the nurse in the room urging him to rest. His teenage daughter, however, cuts him off and says, “If you sleep, I will vanish.” This is the first time fans have seen the surgeon’s deceased daughter.

Glassman’s teenage daughter overdosed that night while her father was sleeping. This was a huge blow to him, not only because he’d lost his beloved daughter, but also because he’d promised his wife that he’d fix Maddie.

How Did Maddie Die On The Good Doctor?

The ghost of Dr. Glassman’s daughter, Maddie, who began experimenting with recreational drug use, haunts him. Frustrated about how to deal with his daughter’s growing addiction, he would bargain with her and threaten to stop providing for her if she continued to use drugs.

Their relationship was strained because Dr. Glassman spent the majority of his time as President of San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

When he found Maddie high again one night, he threw her out of the house, assuming she’d spend the night at Jessica Preston’s or her Aunt’s house because her mother wasn’t home that evening.

Instead, she died that evening, most likely from an overdose. Dr. Glassman is haunted by her death to this day.

Dr. Glassman’s daughter informs him that, as a result of his absence, she has become friends with the family’s attorney, Jessica Preston. As a result, she began abusing drugs. She blamed her father for her absence, claiming that he had missed important events in her life, such as her birthdays. She even told him she would hate him until the day she died.

Maddie then describes what happened that fateful night:

“Mom was not home. You found me high as a skunk. Rather than your usual threats and bargains about my substance abuse, you threw me out. I took more than my body could handle. Why didn’t you find me before it was too late, daddy?”

She thought their daughter needed to go to rehab. Glassman had second thoughts about going to rehab, so he promised his wife that he would care for his daughter from home. Maddie’s mother couldn’t forgive Dr. Glassman when things went wrong. Instead, she abandoned him.
