Tears of the Kingdom Game Wiki

The action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch console in 2024. Serving as the sequel to the highly acclaimed game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild released in 2017, Tears of the Kingdom builds upon its predecessor’s foundation while introducing new elements to the gameplay experience. It maintains the expansive open world of Hyrule, which has now been expanded further to provide enhanced opportunities for vertical exploration. Players assume the role of the iconic protagonist, Link, as he embarks on a quest to assist Princess Zelda in preventing the malevolent Ganondorf from bringing devastation upon the land of Hyrule.

The concept for Tears of the Kingdom originated when the ideas for downloadable content (DLC) for Breath of the Wild surpassed the scope initially planned. The development of the game was spearheaded by Nintendo’s Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) division, with the director of Breath of the Wild, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and producer Eiji Aonuma returning to oversee the project. A brief teaser of the game was unveiled during the E3 2019 event, and a more comprehensive reveal followed at E3 2021, generating significant anticipation among fans. Originally scheduled for release in 2022, Tears of the Kingdom encountered a delay and was ultimately launched in May 2024.

Upon its release, Tears of the Kingdom garnered widespread acclaim from critics and players alike. The game received praise for its notable improvements over its predecessor, including the expanded open world of Hyrule, which provided an even more immersive and captivating environment. The title also introduced features that actively encouraged exploration and experimentation, adding depth and excitement to the gameplay experience. The positive reception translated into remarkable commercial success, as Tears of the Kingdom achieved sales exceeding 10 million copies within the first three days of its availability.

Where are the Stelae in Tears of the Kingdom?

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Stelae can be found in the Gerudo Shelter. Here are the detailed locations of all four Stelae:

First Stelae: To find the first Stelae, enter the Gerudo Town shelter and go to the main room. Speak to Rotana, the Gerudo near the back of the room. She will explain the significance of the Stelae. Behind Rotana, there is a room. Enter that room and look to the left to find a wall covered in rubble. Use a Bomb fused to an arrow to destroy the rubble and uncover the first Stelae.

Second Stelae: From Rotana’s location, go to the room on the left. Inside, Ashai will be giving lessons on the art of love. Stand in the back-left corner and turn to face a column in the corner. The second Stelae is partially hidden behind the column. Take a picture from this viewpoint, making sure to capture both halves of the Stelae connected. Remember to have the red exclamation point appear when taking the picture to ensure it is valid for the quest.

Third Stelae: After leaving the classroom, turn right and then left to start on the underground path to the Gerudo Training Grounds. Before entering the tunnel, you will notice the third Stelae on the left wall. However, it is incomplete. The missing piece is buried in the sand next to the Stelae. Use the Ultrahand tool to extract the stone from the sand and rotate it so that it fits into the Stelae.

Fourth Stelae: Return to the main room with Rotana and proceed to the right. Enter the room with the red flag depicting a bottle. Inside, you will find a wall with six shelves. Break the pots on the bottom left shelf to reveal a secret room. Once inside, use Ascend to enter the jail above. At the back of the room, you will find the fourth and final Stelae.

Tears of the Kingdom Gameplay

Tears of the Kingdom, the follow-up to Breath of the Wild, maintains the beloved open-world action-adventure gameplay of its predecessor. In this new installment, players once again assume the role of Link as they venture through Hyrule, with two additional areas to explore: the Sky Islands and the Depths. Throughout their journey, players must gather weapons, resources, and complete quests to progress. Traveling on foot, climbing, horseback riding, and utilizing paragliders are all available means of exploration.

Introducing new gameplay mechanics, Tears of the Kingdom incorporates Zonai devices that serve multiple purposes. Players can employ these devices for combat, propulsion, exploration, and more. The game replaces the previous runes with five fresh powers: Ultrahand, Fuse, Ascend, Recall, and Autobuild. Ultrahand enables players to manipulate and move various objects, even combining them to create different vehicles or structures with the aid of Zonai devices.

Fuse allows Link to enhance the attributes and durability of shields and weapons by combining materials, equipment, or specific objects in the game world. For instance, fusing an explosive object with an arrow results in an explosive impact upon hitting a target.

Autobuild facilitates the instant recreation of a device crafted using Ultrahand, utilizing nearby devices and objects, or generating temporary replacements if parts are missing, at the expense of zonaite. Ascend grants players the ability to move vertically through solid surfaces. Recall permits the player to “rewind” the movement of objects as needed.

Shrines and Korok Seeds make a return in Tears of the Kingdom. Clearing Shrines rewards players with the Light of Blessing, and collecting four of them allows Link to increase his heart capacity by one or expand his stamina wheel. Korok Seeds, on the other hand, can be utilized to expand Link’s inventory capacity for melee weapons, shields, and bows, enabling him to carry more items.

The Depths, accessible through chasms on the surface, pose a new threat in the form of a viscous substance known as Gloom. When Link comes into contact with or is attacked by enemies covered in Gloom, his maximum heart count temporarily decreases by one. This detrimental effect can only be remedied by returning to the Surface or seeking out Lightroots, large light-emitting plants found in the Depths, which restore Link’s maximum health.

Tears of the Kingdom builds upon the successful formula of Breath of the Wild, allowing players to engage in open-world exploration as Link. With new areas to discover, innovative Zonai devices, and a range of engaging gameplay mechanics, the game provides an exciting continuation of the Zelda series.

Tears of the Kingdom Plot

In the game “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” the story takes place after the events of “Breath of the Wild.” Hyrule is in the process of being rebuilt following Link’s victory over Calamity Ganon. However, a new threat emerges as an unknown substance starts spreading from beneath Hyrule Castle, causing illnesses among the people.

Link and Zelda embark on a quest to investigate the source of the mysterious substance. They explore a cavern beneath the castle and discover ancient Zonai ruins, which depict a great battle. To their surprise, they witness the awakening of a mummified Ganondorf, whose powers corrupt Link’s right arm and shatter Master Sword. As a result, Hyrule Castle is lifted into the sky, separating Link and Zelda.

Link finds himself in the Sky Islands, a newly revealed location. There, he encounters the spirit of Rauru, a Zonai, who offers him a replacement for his corrupted arm. With Rauru’s guidance, Link explores the Sky Islands and receives a vision of Zelda receiving the Master Sword.

Returning to Hyrule, Link discovers that the kingdom has been thrown into chaos due to the upheaval caused by the events. He sets out to investigate disturbances and sightings of Zelda throughout Hyrule. Along the way, Link defeats powerful monsters occupying ancient Zonai temples with the help of representatives from various tribes: Tulin of the Rito tribe, Sidon of the Zora tribe, Riju of the Gerudo tribe, and Yunobo of the Goron tribe. Each victory grants Link a Secret Stone, a Zonai artifact that enhances his power. The link also encounters spiritual forms of ancient sages who appoint him and his companions as new sages, passing down the Secret Stones to them.

Throughout his journey, Link gathers information from Mineru, an ancient sage who maintains her presence through spiritual projection. Through Mineru, the spirits of the sages, and dragon tears scattered across Hyrule, Link learns about Zelda’s fate. The artifact that disappeared with Zelda was a Secret Stone, which transported her back in time.

In the past, Zelda meets Rauru, the first king of Hyrule, and learns about Ganondorf’s transformation into the Demon King. Rauru sacrifices himself to seal Ganondorf, and Zelda receives the Master Sword. In order to restore the sword, Zelda consumes her Secret Stone and transforms into a dragon. Before her transformation, she tasks the past sages with aiding Link in the future.

In the present timeline, armed with Master Sword and the support of the successors of the sages, Link confronts Ganondorf, who lurks deep beneath Hyrule Castle. He battles against Ganondorf’s army with the help of his companions and Mineru. As the battle intensifies, Ganondorf consumes his Secret Stone and transforms into a demonic dragon. However, Zelda, now in her draconic form, assists Link in defeating Ganondorf. With the guidance of Rauru and Sonia’s spirits (Rauru’s deceased wife), Zelda regains her true physical form, and Link regains his right arm.

After the final confrontation, Link and Zelda descend back to the surface of Hyrule. Sometime later, on the Sky Island where Link first awakened, Mineru bids farewell to Zelda and Link before her spirit disperses. The successors of the sages vow to protect Hyrule, ensuring its safety for generations to come.
