Where the Heart Is is a captivating British drama television series that premiered on ITV in the United Kingdom on 6 April 1997. The show, which was created by Ashley Pharoah and Vicky Featherstone, is set in the fictional town of Skelthwaite in Yorkshire, England. It focuses on the lives of a group of district nurses and their families who live and work in the town.
The idea for the show was born when Featherstone visited the Yorkshire town of Meltham and was struck by the tight-knit community, particularly those connected to the local district nursing office. She shared her vision with Pharoah, and they pitched the show to ITV. The network was impressed and ordered the production of the first series. Together with producer Kate Anthony, Pharoah and Featherstone began creating the show.
The series was mainly filmed in the Colne Valley of West Yorkshire, with scenes shot in the villages of Marsden and Slaithwaite, as well as the town of Meltham. The stunning locations and beautiful countryside provided a stunning backdrop for the series, adding to the show’s overall charm and appeal.
Throughout its run, Where the Heart has showcased the struggles, triumphs, and relationships of the district nurses and their families. The show tackled a variety of social issues, including domestic violence, teenage pregnancy, and adoption, among others. The show’s talented cast brought these stories to life, with their nuanced performances and deep emotional connections to their characters.
Where the Heart Is was a massive hit with audiences and critics alike, earning several accolades, including a BAFTA nomination for Best Drama Series. The show’s engaging storylines, memorable characters, and breathtaking scenery all contributed to its success.
