  • Drafted eighth overall by the Mississauga Steelheads in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Hughes honored his commitment to the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP).
  • At the USNTDP in 2017–18, Hughes excelled, putting up 116 points and winning the Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year Award.
