Paul Merton, born on 9 July 1957, is an English writer, actor, comedian, and presenter for radio and television. He is well-known for his exceptional improvisational skills and his brand of humor that is characterized by deadpan, surreal, and sometimes dark comedy. Merton has been recognized by critics, fellow comedians, and viewers as one of Britain’s greatest comedians. He is a regular team captain on the BBC panel game Have I Got News for You and was formerly the host of Room 101. Merton has also made several appearances on the original British version of the improvisational comedy television show Whose Line Is It Anyway?

In addition, Merton is a regular panellist on Radio 4’s Just a Minute, which he first appeared on in 1989. He became the only remaining regular panellist in 2009 after Clement Freud’s death. Merton has also performed as a member of the Comedy Store Players.

He then began a relationship with Sarah Parkinson, who was a producer and actress. They had an unofficial marriage in the Maldives in 2000, which they made official in 2003. Unfortunately, Sarah passed away on September 23, 2003, after losing her battle with breast cancer.

Paul later married Suki Webster, a fellow improviser, in 2009, and they have been together ever since.
