Will There Be a Mummy 2 with Tom Cruise? The Fate of The Mummy Franchise

Will There Be a Mummy 2 with Tom Cruise?

As of now, there are no confirmed plans for the production of “The Mummy 2” starring Tom Cruise. The initial vision of creating a shared universe of classic movie monsters, including iconic characters like Frankenstein and Dracula, was abandoned due to the underwhelming performance of the first film in the series. Despite the dedicated fan base and a resurgence of interest in the franchise, no concrete announcements have been made regarding a sequel with Tom Cruise reprising his role.

However, the possibility of a revival or reboot of the franchise with a new ensemble of actors remains a topic of speculation. The fate of The Mummy franchise is uncertain, and it is yet to be seen whether it will be resurrected for a new generation of audiences. Of course, currently, there are no plans for Mummy 2 with Tom Cruise but his fans can be ready for his next upcoming film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2, this Mission Impossible franchise never failed to satisfy his fans.

The Mummy is a 2017 American fantasy action-adventure film directed by Alex Kurtzman and written by a team that included David Koepp, Christopher McQuarrie, and Dylan Kussman, with a story by Kurtzman, Jon Spaihts, and Jenny Lumet. Serving as a reboot of the Mummy franchise, the movie was part of Universal’s ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful Dark Universe project.

The film features Tom Cruise in the lead role as U.S. Army Sergeant Nick Morton, who inadvertently disturbs the ancient tomb of the imprisoned Egyptian princess Ahmanet, played by Sofia Boutella. The cast also includes Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe.

The Mummy premiered at the State Theatre in Sydney, Australia, on May 22, 2017, and was subsequently released in the United States on June 9, 2017. Despite high expectations, it received predominantly negative reviews from critics. While the film managed to gross $410 million worldwide, its performance was considered disappointing due to the significant production and marketing costs.

Ultimately, the movie incurred a substantial loss, estimated at around $95 million, leading to it being labeled a box-office bomb. The initial goal of the film was to launch the Dark Universe, an ambitious cinematic universe centered around the classic Universal Monsters series. However, the film’s underwhelming box office results prompted the discontinuation and cancellation of the Dark Universe project.

Nick resists Set’s possession, using the powers to extract Ahmanet’s life force, ultimately killing her. Nick bids farewell to Jenny and vanishes, while Ahmanet is sealed back in her tomb. As Ahmanet is once again sealed in her tomb, Jenny and Jekyll ponder whether Nick, now fused with Set, will wield his newfound powers for good. Nick, realizing that the secret society Prodigium is closing in on him, bids a heartfelt goodbye to Jenny before disappearing. The final scene reveals Nick in the desert, resurrecting his comrade Chris.
